On this Memorial Day weekend remember all those that paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

LOG 1-min

Memorial Day weekend continues the chilly week prior trends with the 4-day holiday weekend trending the coldest in 17 years nationally, and the wettest in 3 years. This is a wholesale change from the very favorable weekend last year that was the warmest in 6 years and 3rd warmest in 40 years. This is a big negative trend for holiday seasonal sales, especially hot seasonal categories like AC, fans, apparel, cold beverages and overall store traffic.

LOG 2-min

The wt360 Power of 1 Degree ® technology quantifies the weather trends to seasonal sales and the trends are down. AC demand down -60% or more, bedding plants -48%, suncare -42%, tractors, irrigation and bug sprays -30%, pool chemicals and accessories -24% and apparel -18%.

LOG 3-min

Severe weather continues with another active week. There were 184 tornadoes, 595 hail events and a whopping 1,279 severe weather events last week. These trends are the most in 8-14 years. Cool weather in Spring is a dangerous factor, and the recent strong cold fronts were the catalyst for this outbreak.

LOG 4-min

The 4-day outlook shows severe weather from Texas to Alabama along the cold front.

LOG 5-min

Last week (18-24 May) around the World shows the U.S. trending -7.1F colder than last year, coldest in 23 years and 2nd coldest of the past 40 years. Hot 90F days -10% vs last year, while rainfall was up +32%, wettest in 5 years and 8th wettest of the past 40 years. These are very negative trends for retail seasonal sales. The West Coast and Florida were the bright spots with hotter/drier weather. Canada was equally bad trending coldest in 16 years and Europe the coldest in 4 years.

LOG 6-min

This week (25-31 May) shows the unfavorable trends continuing with the coolest last week of May in 3 years, -3.2F cooler than LY and 11th coolest of the past 40 years. Hot 90F days are down -39% vs last year and rainfall again up +40% vs last year, most in 10 years and 6th most in 40 years. All very negative trends for seasonal sales. The Northwest is the most favorable region with much warmer and much drier YOY weather.

LOG 7-min

Next week (1-7 June) some moderation, but still -2.4F cooler than last year, coolest in 3 years but 12th warmest of the past 40 years. Hot 90F days down -42% vs last year and least in 8 years with rainfall still up +36% vs LY and most in 12 years. Same general theme of the West Coast being the most favorable spot for Summer seasonal sales. Meteorological Summer starts 1 June and last year it got off to the hottest start in history, not this year. 1 June is the start of the 2025 Hurricane season which poses high risk for Eastern Florida and the coastal Northeast.

LOG 8-min

The World 2-week temperature outlook (25 May - 7 June) shows cool conditions for the Central and Eastern U.S., hot West with similar trends across Europe, warmer West and cooler East. China trends cooler.

LOG 9-min

The World 2-week precipitation outlook (25 May - 7 June) shows heavy rain across the Southern tier of the U.S. Wetter in Eastern Europe, Drier Western Europe.
