Happy Monday! :)



What a difference a Sunday makes. Last week Sunday (Mother's Day) was near record cold in the Northeast with 40s while this past Sunday was near record hot with upper 80s outside our offices. We'll take it! CLICK ON IMAGES FOR A LARGER VIEW.

While we had our hottest day of the year so far in the Northeast, the number of hot 90F days across the country are actually down 51% vs last year and 24% below average to date, least in 9 years.

This week (20-26 May) before Memorial Day weekend will trend cooler than last year but still 12th warmest of the past 30 years. The warm spot is the Southeast, the cold spot the Southwest and northern tier of the U.S. Remains wetter than last year and 4th wettest in 30 years for the U.S. overall.

The big weather events this week include another tornado outbreak from Texas to Illinois. The season is already off to a very active start with 558 tornadoes and counting putting the season in the top 25% of active seasons.

The National Hurricane Center puts the odds at 60% that we'll see our first tropical storm of the season this week. It would be named Andrea and likely to only impact Bermuda with heavier rains and squally conditions.

Memorial Day weekend (Friday 24th - Monday 27th) doesn't look too bad trending cooler than last year but still 6th warmest of the past 30 years. Wettest in 4 years and 6th wettest in 30 years for the U.S. overall.

Next week (27 May -2 June) trends cooler than last year but 4th warmest in 30 years with the warm weather in the East and much cooler in the West. National rainfall a tad drier than last year and 11th wettest of the past 30 years.

Angelina Kirk said I can kick as good as David and check out my running moves. :) Yes we had some fun OUTSIDE with the much needed warmer/drier weekend after so many gloomy days here in Eastern PA.

Spent Saturday at Longwood Gardens, Mrs. Captain Kirk's favorite spot on Earth. The fountains were beautiful.
